About

Native stories made by native storytellers

Navigator is a home for native (aboriginal/indigenous/first-nations) film and digital content. It was founded by native storytellers aware that out in the world is an enormous collection of stories made by native filmmakers and artists. So, we thought why don’t we build a platform for them all.

Introducing the people behind the platform

Kingi Gilbert hails from Te Arawa. He is a digital artist and an entrepreneur. If he’s not in front of his computer you’ll find him out in the ocean paddling his canoe training for the national or world waka ama competitions. For the last few years Kingi has been spending his time between New Zealand and Hawaii staying as close to the action as possible.

Kath Akuhata-Brown descends from the Ngati Porou people from the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. She’s a filmmaker and poet who only goes to the ocean to collect seafood. Kath is Wellington based.

Feel free to reach out to us to discuss the platform and/or content distribution opportunities.
